Peter-Ben Smit and Clemens van den Berg contribute to Dutch volume on religious studies
Peter-Ben Smit and Clemens van den Berg have both written a contribution for the new Dutch volume Wie is er bang voor religie? (‘Who’s afraid of religion?’, link in Dutch), edited by Joas Wagemakers and Lucien van Liere. In total, thirty religious scholars from Utrecht contributed essays on how their research remains relevant in light of current or recent events. Peter-Ben’s essay focuses on churches’ role in post-World War II reconciliation, while Clemens’ chapter shows how the origins of European cooperation in the same period can be traced to the ecumenical movement. Hopefully, this volume will stimulate a broad discussion and help inform today’s often all too heated debates on religion and society.
