Denis de Rougemont was a Swiss writer and cultural theorist who predominately worked on the perils of totalitarianism from a Christian point of view. He participated in the Congress of Europe in 1948 as delegate of the Union of European Federalists.
As a devout European federalist de Rougemont founded the ‘Centré Européen de la Culture’ in Geneva in 1951 and the ‘Institut Universitaire d’Etudes Européennes’ in 1963.
