John L. Collyer was the head of B.F. Goodrich Company, which was one of the U.S. largest producers of automobile tires. During World War II, Collyer was one of the few American businessmen who foresaw a shortage of rubber. He served as the head of the Rubber Bureau in the War Production Board (WPB). Collyer chaired the Consumer Goods Subcommittee of the President’s Committee on Foreign Aid.
