Richard M. Fagley was a graduate from Yale University, who was ordained as a minister in 1939. He became involved in the Commission on a Just and Durable Peace, led by John Foster Dulles, and served as its secretary during the last three years of its existence, from 1945 to 1947. In 1951, he joined the successor organisation of the CJDP under auspices of the World Council of Churches, the CCIA, as executive secretary at its New York Office, which was the primary liaison office of the CCIA with the United Nations headquarters. He would fulfill this role for 25 years.
