Yngve Brilioth was a Swedish Lutheran theologian. He was the secretary of Archbishop Nathan Söderblom from 1914 and 1918, and wrote extensively on the history of the Anglican Church and theology. After earning his Ph.D. in theology at Uppsala University, he was ordained a priest in 1918. He was also involved in the Faith and Order Movement, an ecumenical movement that together with the Work and Life Movement would lead to the establishment the World Council of Churches (WCC) in 1948. In 1947, Brilioth was elected chairman of the Movement. He became Archbishop of Uppsala in 1950.
