Founded as a subcommittee of the Comité des Ministres des Affaires Étrangères des Gouvernements allies, the Comité Interallié pour l’Étude de l’Armistice was equipped with the task of studying the immediate problems that would arise in the event of an armistice or the defeat of Germany. The Comité operated from November 1942 to the end of 1944.
There were subcommittees on various aspects of an armistice. Topics that were studied included: repatriation, financial and economic disarmament of Germany, as well as immediate military issues that might arise from an Allied victory.
Especially within the economic and financial sections, members of the European exiled governments found each other. It was here that they already formed a network of economic experts that concerned itself with post-war intra-European economic relations.
