Some Considerations Concerning the Post-War Settlement

Visser ‘t Hooft wrote this blueprint in collaboration with three other authors. He indicates that they were from ‘two main belligerent countries, a neutral country, and an occupied country’. Visser ‘t Hooft himself, a Dutchman, belonged to the latter category. Notes by archivists and other researches in the document point to the possible names of Nils Ehrenström from Sweden for the neutral country, Dietrich Bonhoeffer for Germany, and Denzel G.M. Patrick for Great Britain, but the latter in particular is highly uncertain. In any case, this blueprint is an excellent example of crossborder collaboration through the World Council of Churches’ coordinating efforts from Geneva in war-time.
