Harold Macmillan was a British conservative member who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1957 to 1963, after his predecessor Anthony Eden had resigned from office. During the war he had been a protégé of Winston Churchill and he had served as Foreign Secretary and Chancellor of the Exchequer under Anthony Eden. Under his leadership the British applied for EEC-membership for the first time, which was vetoed by De Gaulle.
He was a member of the Consultative Assembly from 1949 until 1951.
