James Callaghan was a trade union official in the 1930s and served in the Royal Navy during World War II. He entered the House of Commons in 1945. He was a vocal critic of the United States in 1945 and voted against accepting the Anglo-American loan.
James Callaghan was a British Labour politician at the Consultative Assembly between 1949 and 1955. He resisted plans for a European army.
