Pierre Octave Courant, born in Le Havre, was a lawyer and French politician. As former president of the bar, Courant was elected deputy of the sixth district Seine-Inférieur. He belonged first to the Independent Republicans and then to the National Centre of Independents and Peasants.
As Mayor of Le Havre, he joined the French delegation to the Congress of the Hague in 1948.
Between 1951 and 1953 he was minister of Reconstruction, minister of Housing and minister of Budget.
Also, he was a member of the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe (1956 -1959) and worked on the portfolio of social housing in Europe. He declared himself in favor of the return of General de Gaulle to power in 1958.
